According to some news reports, the sacred shrine Gurudwara Shahidi Asthan has been claimed as the place of Masjid Shahid Ganj and attempts are being made to convert it to a mosque. This incident has been viewed with grave concern in India.
Gurdwara Shahidi Asthan is a historical site of martyrdom of Bhai Taru Singh ji located at Naulakha Bazaar in Lahore, Pakistan. The Gurudwara is a place of reverence and considered sacred by the Sikh community.
The MEA said Gurdwara Shahidi Asthan Bhai Taru Ji is a historical gurdwara where Bhai Taru Ji made the supreme sacrifice in 1745. The gurdwara is a place of reverence for Sikhs. This incident has been viewed with grave concern in India. There have been calls for justice for the minority Sikh community in Pakistan.
India expressed its concerns in strongest terms. Spokesperson of the MEA said a strong protest was lodged with the High Commission of Pakistan in New Delhi. India called upon Pakistan to investigate the matter and take immediate remedial measures. Pakistan was also called upon to look after the safety, security, well-being of its minority communities including protection of their religious rights and cultural heritage.
This is not the first incident where the Sikh community in Pakistan has expressed their concerns over being persecuted by the upper hand in Pakistan. Earlier this year in January, members of Delhi Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee took out a protest march outside the Pakistan High Commission in response to the attack on Nankana Sahib Gurudwara in Pakistan.
Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday condemned attempts to convert a historic gurdwara into a mosque in Pakistan’s Lahore and called upon the Centre to communicate the state’s concerns to the neighbouring country. Delhi MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa called the attack on Gurudwara a cowardly act and called out the silence of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“Strongly condemn attempts being made to convert holy Gurdwara Sri Shahidi Asthan in Lahore, site of martyrdom of Bhai Taru Singh Ji, into mosque. Urge Dr S Jaishankar to convey Punjab’s concerns in strongest terms to Pakistan to safeguard all Sikh places of reverence”, Manjinder Singh tweeted.
Meanwhile ISI Khaistani agent chawla and team are silent. Not only on this issue, they were silent on nankana sahib attack too. Langar party and supporter of anti CAA Protest, also silent. Even now speaking against this incident, CM Amarinder singh and Akali Dal were trying to push back goverment on CAA that time.
CAA is an act that was passed in the Parliament on December 11, 2019, allowing Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities who fled from the neighboring Muslim majority countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 2014 due to “religious persecution or fear of religious persecution”.
